Castwave — Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 2026
In short
Castwave has no account and no server of ours. Everything it remembers stays on your iPhone. We don't run analytics or advertising, we don't track you, and we never see the pages you visit or the videos you cast. The only third-party code in the app is Google's Cast SDK, described below.
What stays on your iPhone
To work like a browser, Castwave keeps on your device:
- the addresses of your open tabs;
- your favourites: page titles and addresses, and, when you save a specific video, its stream address;
- website data, as any browser does: cookies, cache and storage of the sites you visit;
- small preferences: the sites where you turned the ad blocker off, your preferred audio and subtitle language, and which sites needed to be relayed through your iPhone when casting.
None of this is sent to us. It is included in your iPhone's own backups according to your iOS settings.
Web pages and search
Pages you open are loaded directly from their websites, which can see your IP address and set cookies under their own privacy policies. The default start page and the search from the address bar use Google. To find the video, Castwave watches the requests a page makes inside the app; this happens on your iPhone only. To show a video's length and resolution, and to check whether your TV will be allowed to play it, the app may request the video's playlist from the same website.
Casting
- Castwave finds TVs on your local network (Google Cast and DLNA). iOS asks your permission for local network access the first time.
- When you cast, the app sends your TV the video's address and the page title. The TV then fetches the video itself from the website.
- When a website only serves the video to the browser that opened it, Castwave relays it: your TV fetches the video from your iPhone over your local network, and your iPhone requests it from the website with that site's cookies, referrer and browser identity. Only cookies of the hosts involved in that video are used, and nothing passes through any server of ours.
- Chromecast and Google TV play the video with Google's Default Media Receiver, which runs on the TV and is governed by Google's privacy policy.
- While a video is casting, the title and TV name appear in a Live Activity on your Lock Screen. To keep the connection to the TV alive with the screen locked, the app plays silent audio; it never uses the microphone.
Google Cast SDK
Casting to Google devices uses Google's Cast SDK. According to Google's own privacy declaration for the SDK, it collects a device identifier, diagnostic data and product interaction data, for analytics and to make casting work. Google declares this data is not linked to your identity and not used for tracking. We don't receive it. See Google's privacy policy.
Diagnostic report
The Diagnostics screen keeps a log of what happened during a cast. The log lives in memory only: it is never written to storage and disappears when the app closes. It leaves your iPhone only if you tap Share and choose where to send it. You can share it with the access tokens in video addresses hidden, which we recommend. The report includes your iOS version, the page, and your TV's name, model and local IP address.
Deleting your data
- Tabs and favourites: close tabs in the tab view; swipe a favourite to delete it.
- Remembered sites: Diagnostics → Relay → Forget remembered sites.
- Diagnostic log: Diagnostics → Log → Clear log, or just close the app.
- Everything, including cookies and website data: delete Castwave from your iPhone.
Children
Castwave is a general web browser and is not directed at children.
